Connect Shopify
What this does
Connect your Shopify store and every sale automatically feeds your loyalty program — no separate device or scanner step for online orders. Turn a card on and it starts earning from Shopify sales right away, following the exact same points/stamps rule and reward catalog you already set up for that card. Rewards are delivered as Shopify discount codes — each reward type has a one-time setup step; see How redeem works below.
Before you start
- Store owner/admin access to your Shopify account, to approve the connection.
- At least one published loyalty card. If you don't have one yet, create it first from Programs → Create New Program.
- A plan that includes POS integrations. If your plan doesn't, you'll be prompted to upgrade when you try to connect.
Step 1 — Connect your Shopify store
1. In your Passtastic dashboard, open Settings, then Integrations.
2. Find Shopify and enter your store's Shopify domain — either the short name (`mystore`) or the full domain (`mystore.myshopify.com`).
3. Click Connect Shopify. You'll be sent to Shopify to review and approve the connection; once approved, you're brought back to Passtastic automatically.
You only do this once per organization — an organization can connect one Shopify store. You can disconnect any time from the same page; disconnecting removes the Shopify discount codes we created for your rewards and clears each card's Shopify setup — your loyalty cards, points, stamps, and customers aren't affected, only the Shopify connection and its discount codes. Reconnecting sets everything up fresh.
Step 2 — Turn on earning, per card
Once connected, you'll see Your loyalty cards — every published card in your account. Each one starts Off. Toggle a card on and its status switches to Earning; Shopify sales now count toward that card automatically.
Connecting Shopify doesn't reconfigure a card's rules — it just plugs your existing setup into your Shopify sales:
- How a sale earns follows the card's own points/stamps rule (per visit, or per amount spent) — the same rule you already set up in the card's points rules.
- What a customer can redeem follows the card's own reward catalog.
If you need to change how much a card earns or what it rewards, edit the card itself from Programs — the Shopify integration doesn't have a separate configuration for that.
How earn works
- Stamp cards get 1 stamp per order.
- Point cards (and level cards) earn based on the card's own rule — either a fixed amount per paid visit (1 order = 1 visit), or a rate per amount spent. The amount used for "amount spent" is the order's subtotal plus tax; shipping is excluded.
- Earning only happens for orders placed by a signed-in customer whose email matches an existing pass. Guest checkouts, or a different email, won't earn a stamp or points.
- Both online store and POS sales made through your Shopify account count by default.
How redeem works
- Point and level cards: a reward syncs as a Shopify discount code once you give it a discount value. Open Settings → Points Rules, pick the reward, and set its Online store discount — an amount in the rule's currency, or a percentage off. Rewards without a value aren't synced yet; on the Shopify page they're listed as "not synced" with a link straight to Points Rules so you can fix it.
- Stamp cards: the discount code is created automatically as soon as you turn the card on — you just set its amount once, in your Shopify store's own Discounts section.
- When a customer earns enough for a reward — say, a free coffee at 100 points — Passtastic deducts the points cost from their card and they redeem with that reward's discount code.
- The customer applies the code at checkout in Shopify, the same way any discount code works.
- No scanner app needed for Shopify — both earning and redeeming happen online. (The scanner is only needed for in-person tools like Square.)
Requirements & notes
- This integration needs a plan that includes POS integrations.
- One Shopify store per organization — to switch stores, disconnect the current one first, then connect the new one.
- Rewards only sync as discount codes for cards that are turned on. Turning a card off stops it earning from Shopify sales and its reward discount codes stop working at checkout — turn it back on to resume.
